PhD in Biomedical Science with a Certificate in Clinical Investigation

The Center for Study of Gene Structure and Function, Hunter College, CUNY, in conjunction with the Clinical Translational Science Center (CTSC), offers the opportunity for qualified applicants to pursue a PhD degree in Biomedical Science as well as a certificate in Clinical Investigation.  

The PhD program in biomedical science and certificate in clinical investigation target students who want to pursue careers that bring together biomedical research and clinical medicine.  

 

Programs

PhD programs are offered in Biology, Biochemistry, Biopsychology, Biophysics, Bio-anthropology and Chemistry. The 5 year program consists of core and elective courses at Hunter and the CUNY Graduate Center and dissertation research at Hunter. The one year certificate program for Clinical investigation offers a wide variety of courses in clinical research (e.g., Biomarkers, IRBs, HIPPA, Clinical Trials Design and Analysis, Biomedical Informatics) through our partnership with the Clinical Translational Research Center (CTSC) at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC).

 

Support

The Fellowship features a stipend of $32,000, and full tuition and health insurance every year for five years pending availability of funds. It is sponsored by funding from the Gene Center, the department of concentration, the mentor, the Graduate Center.  

 

How to apply

To apply for the Ph.D. program go to http://www.gc.cuny.edu/doctoral_programs and select your area of interest. Complete the application form and submit it before the deadline.  Indicate in your application that you would like to join the Hunter College Program.  Send supporting materials by mail together in one envelope to: Office of Admissions, The Graduate Center, The City University of New York, 365 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10016-4309. Please indicate your program of study on the front of the envelope. The application process, which summarizes the requirements and deadlines, is available online. 

Check carefully for the application deadline for your program (usually January 1st or February 1st) and submit the application before that deadline. Please forward copies of all application materials to the Gene Center, Attn: Denise Charles (695 Park Avenue, Room 315N, New York, NY 10065) to apply for the Gene Center Fellowship.
